Valentine's Day What is Love? Life Coaching Questions & Quotes

Phyllis Reardom M.Ed.
Life Coach

Valentine's Day, is an annual celebration of love.  The day is named after Saint Valentine and is  a day of chocolates and flowers; of hugs & kisses; heart shaped everything and the color red.

I thought I would ask some Valentine Day/ Love related questions to get you in the Feb 14th
mood. And help you create more love awareness in your life.  Note, I said I’d present the questions…it’s your Life….. I’ll leave the answers to you.

I will also offer you some Valentine love quotes….use them if you like.

What is love?
How often I wonder has this question been asked. I'm sure there are many who would say there is no such thing as love.

I remember years ago working with a young woman who was totally controlled by her boy friend…she thought this was love.

No doubt our definition of love will come from our personal experiences and perceptions.

Valentine's Day

Early February sees young children busy preparing cards to send to favorite friends.

Grandparents are purchasing red items of clothing for grandchildren, to avoid the sugary gifts.

Lovers are searching for, ‘the just right’ gift.

Red heart shapes fill the shops.

Valentine’s Day Life Coaching Questions

1. What is love?

2. How does it show itself?

3. In red boxes of chocolates?  In a dozen red roses?  Maybe.

4. Or is love shown in other ways?

5. How were you shown love as a child?

6. Did it only happen on Valentine’s Day?

7. How do you show love to your children? Grandchildren?

8. How do you express love to your spouse; partner?

9. If I asked them that question, what would they say?

10. On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being ‘almost none’ and 10 being awesome…..how much love is in your life right now?

11. How do you define love?

12. Do you love yourself?

13. How do you show self love?

14. Do you think self love is essential to give you the ability to love others?

15. Do you want and need more love in your life?

Valentine's Day  Love Quotes...share them...use them with your loved ones.

"I like not only to be loved, but also to be told I am loved."    George Eliot

"Life is the flower for which love is the honey."  Victor Hugo

"
Life without love is like a tree without blossoms or fruit."  Khalil Gibran

"
Looking back, I have this to regret, that too often when I loved, I did not say so." David Grayson

"
Two lovers in the rain have no need of an umbrella." Japanese Proverb
"You know you're in love when you don't want to fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams."  Dr. Seuss

"Love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs."   William Shakespeare

"Her lips on his could tell him better than all her stumbling words."   Margaret Mitchell

Wishing each of you all the love you deserve.

Now a quote from me:

"Love yourself to the fullest and your life will be filled with love, always."   Phyllis Reardon

What Is Life Coaching? What Can Life Coaching Do For Me?

What Can Life Coaching Do For Me?

Good morning, we are almost finished the month of January, how are you doing with your daily, weekly plans? How is your Life?

If you are a Life Coach chances are you have often been asked this question, “What Can Life Coaching Do For Me?”

If you are not a Life Coach you may have wondered about or even asked the question yourself.
At some level we all know the meaning of the word “ Coach.” Webster defines it as:

"one who instructs or trains as in an acting coach; especially: one who instructs players in the fundamentals of a competitive sport and directs team strategy, a football coach. "
Most of us, in one form or another would have had connections somewhere in our life with a sport coach. In the 80s the sport’s coaching concept was introduced into the boardroom and this became the basis for Life Coaching which took root in the early 1990s. So you see it is still relatively new so very fair to be asking, "What is Life Coaching?" .

Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google was once asked for one business tip and he said…”Get a Life Coach.”

Life is Life and consist of many parts, all of which are integral to the other. Our work life will influence our family relations. Our health/fitness may effect our work and so on. Even though we may be an expert in each of these areas we sometimes  will need the assistance of a Life Coach.
All  elite athletes  have coaches. There is no doubt that Derek Jeter is one of the best baseball hitters in the world, but he has a coach. Patton Manning, Tiger Woods and Sydney Crosby all have coaches.  Their skills need to be practiced, maintained and enhanced if they are to continue to be the best. The same goes for us in Life.

Your Life, my life and everyone’s life includes:
 Life Parts
Family/Relationships
Career/Work
Health/Fitness
Personal Growth
Money/Finances
Physical Environment
Fun/Joy
Romance
On a scale of 1 – 10, with 10 being fantastic and 1 not so great, rate yourself in each area.  Be honest with yourself. It's your Life.

Where do you need to improve? Where would you like to improve?

Eliminating Self Doubt Life Coaching Activities

Phyllis Reardon M.Ed

Life Coaching Activities
Just recently I  met a young woman who was brilliant and who would appear to have everything in life. However as we spoke it became very clear that she suffered from a high degree of Self Doubt.
She was stuck in her life and career and the reason being, she was uncertain and doubtful about her own ability to make the correct decsion. She was in what I call...a state of 'Decision Fear', all brought on by Self Doubt.

Self Doubt is a lack of confidence in yourself to make decisions or take action.

You were not born this way. Self Doubt comes from your experiences and interactions with other people.
The feedback or reactions you got from family and friends or teachers and classmates help determine your Self and if much of this feedback was negative or critical it may have caused you to develop Self Doubt.

Self doubt exhibits itself in the continuous questioning of a decision you have made or the inability to make that decision.

Self Doubt prevents people from moving ahead in life and can stop motivation from developing.

If you suffer from Self Doubt there are a few things that you can do to rid yourself of this negativity.

Life Coaching Activities for Eliminating Self Doubt

 1. The very first step is to recognize that you are a ‘Self Doubter’.

2. Next decide that you no longer want this to be a part of your daily life.

3. Each time you experience a Self Doubting episode, note it on paper. Write down all the negative talk. All the catastrophe that is in your head. Most of the time this is the only place the catastrohpe happens!

4.  Next, look at the Doubts that are created and determine if they are real. Ask yourself, “What is the worst thing that could happen if I take this action?”

5. Use self talk to build your confidence around the decision.

6. Make your decision.  Take action. Release any negative thoughts you have about your decision. Let them go.

Make sure that you use this process every day, even with the smallest life decisions and in this way you will build your Self Confidence and lessen your Self Doubts.

Remember that you have all the power that you need to accomplish what you choose to do.

Trust in yourself!

Life Coaching & My Casablanca Visit

Phyllis Reardon M.Ed.
Life Coach

On Dec 8th we began a 27 day crusie. Our first port of call was Casablanca.

My visit, albeit a short one, took me through the streets and into the bazaars of Casablanca. An amazing display of unique items, amazing rugs and unfamiliar yet interesting smells greeted me as I slowly moved in and out of the shops and stalls.

Some merchants were persistent in the sale of their product while others offered the soft sell.

In some parts of the city what appeared to be heavy black smoke arose from large smoke stacks, reminding me of my youth when most homes used coal for heating fuel.

One thing I noticed, was the number of men sitting in small groups, sipping on what appeared to be tea, that they shared as it poured all steamy and hot from silver tea pots.

When we visit places with cultures different from ours, I think it is natural to look for similarities and differences.

As we walked around the city tha day I saw people very busy with their lives and work. Heavy car and motor bike traffic rushing about the streets;  men, women and children going about their daily tasks.

Life and work are life and work, no matter where in the world we live. The Bazaar merchants are small business/entrepreneurs delighted on days that huge cruise ships visit their port. To us they were extremely interesting and unique with amazing product to sell. For them we were potential customers, helping increase their bottom line.

Interestingly we are all unique in our cultural ways but in the ways of Life and Work there are many similarities.

The picture I have attached shows the outside walls of the Bazaar I visited.

Want to Have a Success in Your New Year's Resolution?

Phyllis Reardon M.Ed.
Life Coach

Welcome to 2012!

What a year 2011 was for me! I had my first granchild, a beautiful little girl. My book sales have been fantastic and I just finished a 4 week crusie. Now it's time for back to work and the first thing I need to do is create my 2012 plan or what I want to achieve in this new year. Part of my plan will be work related the other will be personal. The two cannot be separated.

Have you made New Year Resolutions? Most times they fail so why not try to think of them more as life plans that will enhance your Life and Work. Make sure the plans you make are achieveable. You want to be successful, don't you?

In today’s blog I will offer you some tips to up your chances for success.

Tips to help you succeed with your 2012 Resolution

1. Write down on paper what it is you plan to achieve. What you resolve to do. Yes I said paper. You can always copy to a computer program.

2. Now look carefully at what you have written. How will you achieve this? What actions do you need to take to reach this goal?

3. What resources do you need in place? If it is to lose weight, do you need new walking shoes; do you need to join a gym; do you need to talk to your doctor?

4. Keep that paper and pencil handy. Now that you have listed the resolution or goal you want to achieve make a list of Action Steps needed to get you to where you want to be.

5. Take each Action Step and break it down into smaller Action Steps.

6. Assign a time line to each of you Action Steps.

7. Hold yourself accountable. Post these Action Steps where you can see them throughout your day.

8. Reward yourself on the completion of each Action. If losing weight is your Goal, make sure the reward doesn’t have too many calories.

9. Persist. Persist. Persist.

10. Reward yourself.

Remember, there will be times when you will hit a bump in the road, slow down but do continue. Don't take your stumbles as an excuse to give up. Get up dust yourself off and continue.

If you have any questions please email me.

Have a successful day.
