Oh The Weekend! Time For The 3 Rs - Relaxing, Reflecting,Regenerating

The weekend has arrived. If your work schedule gives you the weekend off well it is time for the three Rs.

Relax
You have worked hard all week. Give the body and mind a break. Whatever form of relaxation works for you, take time to do it.

Reflect

My favorite time to reflect is very early morning just as the sun is rising. Pick a time of day for your reflection. It is amazing the discoveries you can make about you.

Regenerate

It is time to restore our physical and mental energy. Life can be draining. Regenerating for me is a walk in nature, a workout at the gym or a good book. Regenerate in a way that works for you.

Above all, enjoy your weekend and your life.

It's Friday- the End of the Week/ End of the Month

Today's Quote:

"We can do anything we want to do if we stick with it long enough."
Helen Keller

It is not only the end of the week but the end of another month. So how did you do with tasks and projects you planned to complete this month?

Check your list.
Which ones got started?
Which ones got completed?
Reward youself for the work that was well done.
On Monday review and revisit tasks to be completed.
Make a new timeline/completion dates.
Get started, take the first step.

Plan, plan,plan.

Have a great weekend.

Procrastination - No Time For That

Today's Quote:

"The beginning is half of every action"
Greek Proverb

It's Thursday, are there projects or tasks that you need to complete before the end of the week? Many of us procrastinate when it comes to areas of work that we least enjoy. I have found that facing these tasks head on and getting them completed and out of the way the first part of the day clears up creative space in your head. Makes life and work more enjoyable.

If beginning is half of every action, just get started.

1. What's your very first step?
2. What's next?
3. And after that?

Have a great day,

A Positive Mental Attitude in Life and Work Helps Create Success

Quote of the Day

"A positive mental attitude is the single most important principle of the science of success." Napoleon Hill

It isn't always easy to stay positive especially when we are faced with all the media attention to the down turn in the economy, downsizing, unemployment and now on top of that the H1N1. It seems to be a fall of a combination of bad weather and bad news.

Questions to help create a PMA.

1. Do you see the glass half empty or half full?
2. Is your self-talk positive?
3. Do you choose to be positive at work today?
4. Do you choose to be positive at home today?

Have a great day.

Focus On Your Wins - Success Creates Success

Good Tuesday morning. My first thought this morning when I looked at my calendar was,two months from today we will be eating leftover turkey. Time flies.

Two months left in the year 2009. Did you accomplish all you set out to do back on January 1st 2009? Did you accomplish part of what was in your Life Plan for 2009?

Take a few minutes today to reflect, if you would, on what you did accomplish, your Wins. We can so easily beat ourselves up for not completing tasks. For a short time today make a wriitten note of what you did accomplish at work and in life over the past 10 months.

1.Focus on your wins.
2.Wins come in all sizes.
3.Write them down.
4.These are your successes.
5.Reward yourself for accomplishing so much.

Have a great day,

NLACP - Career Practitioner Conference

Good Monday morning! I attended the very first Newfoundland and Labrador Career Practitioner Conference this weekend. As I drove home over a very wet and windy highway I reflected on the strides that have been made in the career development area in our province, amazing. But I feel even more amazing was the intensity and the desire I saw in the eyes of every career practitioner for this information, knowledge and confirmation.

As my highway drive continued,I recalled all the words that were repeated by presenters. This was good because we were getting similar messages. I heard words like, planning, personal, hope, self esteem, career continuum, opportunity, success, positive, vocation/calling and many more.

So much fantastic information. So many words. Now what? Next step?
How do use all of this? What one(two/three) piece of information did you get from the weekend?
Make a note of what stayed in your head. Write it down.
What is it about this piece of information that resonated with you?
How will it fit in to your everyday work?
How can it help you work with your clients? Write it down.Use it.
Review in a week. Use it. Review.

A Life Plan, Do You Have Your Life Plan?

We need plans for every part of our life. We make plans daily for what to wear, what to eat, where to eat, the list goes on. But do we plan for the most important and precious thing we have...our Life.

Today's Question:

Do You have a Life Plan? What will your life be like in 5 years? 10 years?

"Our aspirations are our possibilities."

Daily Question and Quote Oct.21

Good morning. Regardless of how or where we work, most workdays can bring a challenge. I wanted to begin this day with both a question and a quote, not necessarily related but hopefully thought provoking.

Today's Question:

What would you do in your life and work if you knew you could not fail?

Today's Quote:

"The beginning is half of every action."
Greek Proverb

Have a great day!

October Monday Morning Work Hints and Planning

It always seems more difficult to get moving on Mondays especially when the sun isn't shinning which it isn't this time of year for a lot of us in the north and northeast.

If Mondays usually feel like this for you, you might try the followng:

1. Take time on the weekend to plan your Mon-day.
2. Ask yourself what motivates you and add a little to your Mon-day.
3. If the day looks or feels dull, wear at least one bright piece of clothing to work.
4. Take a few minutes during the day to revisit in thought a summer vacation. Recall just how relaxed you were.
5. If possible go for a walk at lunch time, good for the body and the mind.

Have a great Monday!

How Do You Choose to be Today? Questions to Direct Your Day

It's Sunday, Oct 18th, 2009; how do you choose to be today. Much of what happens to us in life is about choice. When we awake in the morning to face the day we make a decision on how that day will be for us. Sure we can't control the obstacles or speed bumps that are placed in our way but we can choose how we will repond in these situations.

Will you choose a positive or negative response?
Will you see the glass have full today or half empty?
Will you smile more and frown less?

It is yours to choose. Choose wisely.

Have a great day! Chat on Monday.

Helpful Hints for Parents: The Power of Compliments and Your Child

It is six weeks into the new school year, check in time; how is your child doing in school? Have you asked?Have you received any reports?

Regardless of your child's age school can be a difficult place at times. Plan each day to talk to your child. Allow for a comfy place to curl up and ask how their day was. Listen carefully to what they say, give them positive feedback and follow up on any of their concerns. What may seem small and insignificant to you may be major in a child's mind.

Use compliments daily. Mark Twain once said, " one compliment can keeping going for two months."
