Want To Be A Life Coach?

Want To Be a Life Coach?

Phyllis Reardon M.Ed.
Life Coach

I know it isn't too spring like in some parts but it is that time of year when we start to focus more attention to our next personal or professional project.

Have you moved into Spring mode? Got all your ducks in a row? Moving forward with your Plans?

Most of my clients want to make a change in their life, that’s why they hire a Life Coach. Some come to me with their idea well worked out but they are not moving forward. They are not taking the necessary action to move toward their goal. In their own words they say they want everything to be perfect.

If the great movers and shakers in the world had to wait until everything was perfect I probably wouldn’t have the technology to write this blog. Too many times we want everything to be perfect before we take that step to start our own business, change careers, show -off out latest invention, publish our book, or to deliver that workshop.

Waiting for Perfection may end lack of movement. I’m sure you have heard the phrase, "over analysis creates paralysis."

Just recently while on a teleconference, I heard a young woman say that she was ready and prepared to be a life coach but didn’t feel like one. How do you feel like a life coach? a pilot? a doctor? a model?

William James a great psychologist coined the phrase, ‘Act As If.’ His theory was that if you want to be something (occupation) determine just out how they behave and start acting like them. This is all related to the theory of how our thoughts determine our behaviors. “Acting As If” you had already achieved your goal.

Life Coaching Activities

Act as IF and see what happens. Here are some Life Coaching Activities to move you to who you want to be:

1. Use professional language when introducing herself.

2. Create a professional business card.

3. Develop a professional website.

4. Create a professional email address.

5. Have a professional picture of yourself on your website and LinkedIn.

6. Talk the talk (of Life Coaching) and walk the walk.

7. Believe in yourself.

8. Keep learning!

Act As If is a technique you can continue to use to build self confidence, attract clients and be successful.

You have all the power you need to do what you want to do or be what you want to be.

“If you can think it, you can achieve it.” Napoleon Hill

The next time you delay or stall on a goal try out “Acting As If” you had already achieved it. Put your mind into that space. Act as if and see what happens!

  1. Perfection, what a wonderful concept. I think I have good ideas, occasionally great. Unfortunately, the mechanics of my writing are not what I would like. Over the last 5 years, I've had at least one blog and many times more requiring constant updating. No matter how many times I proof read, later on I'll find a typo or mistake. In the end, imperfect as my blogs are, I'm connecting with others. I belong to a mastermind group where two members don't blog because it takes too long to get them perfect.
